Yes, aluminium window frames can often be repainted after you move in, provided the frames are suitable and the work area can be properly prepared and isolated. An occupied home needs careful planning around furniture, finished surfaces and access. For 9RENO, the standard spray-painting scope covers internal surfaces visible when the windows are closed. Intermediate and external sections are excluded, and additional protection may cost extra.
Already moved in? Start with the protection plan
You have finished the renovation, moved the furniture in, and then noticed the old window-frame colour. Can it still be changed?
It may be possible. The first step is to assess the existing coating, frame condition and surrounding area. A colour change will not repair a faulty lock, worn roller or leaking frame joint, so tell us about those issues when requesting a quotation.
In a furnished condo, access and protection are part of the job planning. Nearby curtains, blinds, furniture, carpentry and flooring need attention before spraying begins. Simply covering the floor does not address every surface that could be affected.
What does 9RENO’s standard window spray-painting quote cover?
| Item | Standard quotation basis |
|---|---|
| Painted surfaces | Internal surfaces visible when the window is closed |
| Intermediate sections | Excluded |
| External surfaces | Excluded |
| Site condition | Unit under renovation |
| Protection around completed carpentry, painting and an occupied home | Additional protection is subject to assessment and extra charges |
| Wall touch-up | Excluded |
Ask us to identify the surfaces included before confirming the job. Opening a window can reveal sections outside the standard internal-only scope. Those sections may remain in their original colour.
If you also want balcony sliding-door frames painted, include them in your photos so the quotation can state their scope separately.
Can we stay at home during the spray painting?
Do not assume the room can remain occupied while spraying takes place. Before work starts, agree on work-area isolation, ventilation, access and when the space can be used again. Re-entry and curing instructions depend on the coating system and site conditions.
Tell us if children, pets or anyone sensitive to paint fumes lives in the unit. We will need to consider these arrangements when assessing whether the work can proceed. There is no single re-entry time suitable for every home and paint system.
How is the work planned?
1. Assess the frames and existing coating
Send overall and close-up photos. Point out peeling paint, oxidation, scratches, screw holes and any operating or leakage problems. The assessment determines what preparation and repairs should be included.
2. Confirm the colour and surface boundaries
Agree on the colour, finish and exact sections to be painted. If the work could affect the building’s external appearance, check the proposed scope with your condo management before confirming it.
3. Clear access and protect finished surfaces
Agree on who will move furniture and remove or protect curtains and blinds. The quotation should account for the actual site condition, including completed carpentry and painted walls.
4. Prepare and coat the agreed surfaces
Preparation and a suitable coating system are central to the result. Cleaning, surface preparation and any agreed repairs come before the finishing coats. Painting over an unsuitable or failing surface needs assessment first.
5. Check the finish and follow aftercare instructions
Review the agreed painted areas and receive the coating’s curing and cleaning guidance. Avoid scraping the new finish, applying adhesive tape or using aggressive cleaning solvents. Confirm when normal cleaning and window use can resume.
Is repainting better than replacing the windows?
Repainting may suit frames that remain serviceable but have an unwanted colour or worn finish. Replacement may need consideration where there is significant damage or an operating problem that refinishing cannot solve.
Start with the condition of the window, then decide whether repair, repainting or replacement fits the problem. A fresh coating changes the finish; it does not automatically resolve leaks or mechanical faults.
Frequently asked questions
Will every part of the frame become the new colour?
Not under the standard internal-only scope. Intermediate and external sections are excluded. Confirm the visible boundaries with the windows both closed and open before work starts.
Why might a moved-in home cost more than a unit under renovation?
An occupied home can need more protection and preparation around furniture, flooring, finished carpentry and painted walls. 9RENO’s standard quotation assumes a unit under renovation; additional protection is assessed separately.
Does the quotation include touching up the surrounding walls?
No. Wall touch-up is excluded from the standard window spray-painting quotation. If you need it, ask for it to be assessed and quoted separately.
Can you paint the frames without replacing the glass?
Window-frame repainting does not normally require new glass solely for a colour change. The existing frame, glass and seals still need assessment, and the agreed scope should explain what will be protected and painted.
How long will the work and curing take?
Timing depends on the number of frames, their condition, site access, preparation and coating system. Ask for a job-specific schedule, including any restrictions on using the rooms and cleaning the finished frames.
