Bathtub Repair & Resurfacing Singapore

Can a damaged bathtub be repaired instead of replaced? Often, yes. Rust spots, chips, peeling coatings and some cracks can be assessed for repair and PU resurfacing when the bathtub body and support remain suitable. Deep corrosion, movement, serious structural damage and leaks need assessment before any finish is applied.

9RENO provides bathtub repair, resurfacing and repainting in Singapore. Send a full-tub photo and close-ups so we can distinguish a surface problem from a defect that needs more work. WhatsApp your bathtub photos.

Bathtub Repair, Resurfacing and Replacement: What Is the Difference?

  • Local repair: treats a specific chip, rust spot or suitable crack. A spot repair may remain visible because aged colours and sheen can differ.
  • Full resurfacing: prepares the whole agreed bathtub surface, addresses suitable defects and applies a new PU finish for a more consistent appearance.
  • Replacement assessment: may be needed for extensive deterioration, an unstable or badly damaged body, or repairs that are not economical.

Material, damage depth, previous coatings and access determine the method. Acrylic, fibreglass and metal tubs need different preparation; a photo estimate does not confirm every concealed condition.

Common Bathtub Problems We Assess

  • Rust spots and staining around damaged metal surfaces.
  • Chips or impact damage from dropped objects.
  • Cracks in suitable acrylic or fibreglass tubs.
  • Peeling previous paint and incompatible coatings.
  • Worn, stained or discoloured finishes.
  • Drain and overflow defects that may require separate fitting work.

Repainting does not solve every leak. Drain connections, overflow fittings, failed waterproofing, support movement and concealed plumbing must be assessed separately. Do not cover an unresolved defect with a new coating.

Our Bathtub Restoration Process

  1. Inspect and agree scope: identify the bathtub material, defects, existing finish and any limits to repair.
  2. Protect and prepare: arrange access and ventilation, mask nearby surfaces, clean and degrease, and remove unsound previous coating where needed.
  3. Repair suitable defects: prepare rust, chips or cracks; reinforcement is considered where the material and access allow.
  4. Prime and resurface: apply the selected compatible system and PU spray finish to the agreed surface.
  5. Cure and check: inspect the finish and provide handling, cleaning and return-to-use instructions.

Repair needs and the existing finish can change the work sequence. On-site resurfacing is not a new factory-manufactured bathtub.

Curing and Bathtub Aftercare

Do not use the bathtub until the advised curing period has passed. Surface dryness does not necessarily mean the coating is ready for water or cleaning. The actual return-to-use time depends on the coating system and site conditions and will be confirmed for your job.

  • Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaning products as advised.
  • Avoid harsh solvents, abrasive pads and sharp objects.
  • Prevent shower heads and other heavy items from striking the surface.
  • Avoid adhesive tapes or suction accessories unless approved for the finish.
  • Report new movement, leaks or damage promptly.

What Affects the Cost?

The quotation depends on bathtub size and material, the extent of rust or cracking, previous paint removal, local repair versus full resurfacing, protection and access. Drain replacement, concealed leaks, plumbing, support work, waterproofing and surrounding tile repairs are excluded unless specifically included.

Send These Details for an Assessment

  • One overall photo of the bathtub and surrounding area.
  • Close-ups of rust, chips, cracks and peeling.
  • Photos of the drain and overflow where relevant.
  • Whether the tub leaks, flexes or moves during use.
  • Details of previous repairs or repainting.
  • Your Singapore location, access arrangements and preferred dates.

See our quotation checklist. Any initial estimate is subject to the confirmed condition and agreed scope.

Bathtub Repair and Resurfacing FAQs

Can a cracked acrylic or fibreglass bathtub be repaired?

Some cracks are repairable after the cause, material, support and access are assessed. A moving or poorly supported base needs attention; coating alone will not stabilise it. Extensive damage may make replacement more appropriate.

Can rust be painted over?

Rust and loose material need preparation first. The remaining metal must be suitable for repair. Severe corrosion or perforation requires further assessment before resurfacing is recommended.

Can peeling paint from an earlier repair be fixed?

Often it can be assessed for removal and a compatible replacement coating. Loose or incompatible paint must be addressed, which may add preparation work. Send close-ups and tell us what was previously applied if you know.

Will resurfacing fix a leaking bathtub drain?

No. A drain or overflow problem needs separate assessment and may require fitting replacement. Read our bathtub drain repair guide.

How long does the work take?

Duration depends on preparation, damage, access and curing. Confirm both the work period and when the tub can be used again before arranging the job. A completed spray coat is not an instruction for immediate use.

How long will the finish last, and is there a warranty?

Performance depends on preparation, the underlying tub, use and aftercare. Confirm the applicable bonding warranty and exclusions in your written quotation. Impact damage, unsuitable cleaners and unresolved underlying defects should not be confused with a coating-bonding issue.

Can you renovate the whole bathroom instead?

Yes, wider renovation requirements can be assessed separately. See our toilet renovation service for tiling, waterproofing and fitting requirements.
