General Condition

To upgrade, fix, or change the windows in your apartment, it’s necessary to hire a registered window contractor ( Licensed Builder or AWC) who is both certified by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and registered with the Housing Development Board (HDB). This ensures that all work done meets the required standards. This is generally apply to the window is small in size, more than 1m height and not full height or non 3/4 height window. The new BTO windows which is build in pre-cast wall also not allow to replace and required HDB approval.

Can We Painting HDB Window?

For homeowner buying resale HDB and looking for refresh the colour of old aluminium window, the option can consider is to repaint the existing old aluminium window internally. Externally will be challenge due to access issued and colour to be maintained.

The option of replacement of window is restricted for big window, the alternative way to retrofit the window is best with painting the colour of frame.

Most of HDB windows are constructed in aluminium and normally is powder coated finished. For re-painting the window, the best type of paint is using Epoxy or Polyethylene (PU) paint. This is due to the paint is consist of 2 part ( with hardener) and it is lasting and durable. The preparation work for the surface is required and include a coat of primer before 2 coats of finishing coats.

For best option, PU paint is recommended as it is UV resistance and prevent colour fading and can last many years and not require to be repainting often. The paint can be last more than 10 Years if it is well take care and keep away from chemical ( Esp. Thinner) and damages by sharp objects to the metal surface.
